What Chat Map stores — and what it throws away

The short version

We keep only the chat messages that matter to the map:

• Greeting / check-in messages (“hello from Lisbon!”) — the full text, author name, platform, timestamp, the resolved location, a weather snapshot and badge flags.
• Mentions that connect two checked-in participants (“@Bob …”) — text, pair, timestamp.
• Participant and location registries per streamer account (check-in counts, first/last seen).

Everything else that passes through the chat relay is discarded immediately — never written to disk, never logged.

How long we keep it

• Check-ins and interactions: kept until the account owner deletes them.
• Avatar images: cached on our own domain (≤ 1 GB, oldest evicted first).
• Weather is cached ~15 minutes; location “known for” facts are cached long-term from Wikipedia.

Your rights

From the dashboard you can export everything we hold about your account (JSON) and delete your account with all streams, check-ins, participants and interactions (cascade delete, immediate).

Map page URLs are unguessable; anyone with the link can view that stream's map. Treat the OBS URL like a private link.
